Kylee's Quilt In Progress

Last Sunday, Ky and her dad and new step mom came over for Sunday dinner.

After eating, Ky asked if she could make a scrap quilt.  She made her tote the weekend before and is really excited about sewing again.

She picked out all the colors herself and proceeded to make blocks.  Managed to get 10 put together, she needs 20.

This Friday morning I get a call, "grandma can you come and get me so I can sew on my quilt"?  You betcha honey.

We finished her 20 blocks and today we worked on the sashing and putting rows together.  I am not doing any of the sewing on this, she is doing it all by herself.  Still cut for her and iron.  She doesn't like the pinning part, so I do that for her, but have taught her how to do it and why it is necessary.

We couldn't finish today, grandma wore out before we finished.  Will pick it up where we left off next weekend.

Here's what it looks like so far.  She has 3 rows sewn together and 2 more to finish before putting on the border.

I think she was getting too rushed to get it done, so her seams were not going so well today.  I decided, until she gets used to watching her straight lines and depth of seam, I used a heat fade pen and drew the seam lines for her on the long pieces in between the rows.  This is helping her to slow down and be more accurate.

Grandma thinks she is doing an awesome job.  Again, she chose the colors and makes the decision which piece gets sewn to the next.  Ky really likes the Neon colors, and this will go perfect in her room.

I wasn't aware I had so many bright neon colors.  Good thing she wanted these colors, because I don't know what I would have used them for other than a scrap quilt just like this.

Thanks Pam, she has an eye for color. I know I sound like a proud gma, but I am. She has so much talent and can do anything she puts her mind to. Just imagine, she is only 10, if she continues using her creativity, how far she can go.
