Crazy Quilt Continues

This morning I FINISHED the inner top and inner borders - now its ready to add the large outer border - which still has to be purchased and then sewn on.

Maybe just maybe this quilt will actually be completed before the end of Oct or mid Nov.  Fingers crossed.

I'm thinking Monday or Tuesday we can go and purchase the outer border fabric - then its the backing and batting and the quilting has to be done - and the final step binding.

In addition throw pillows and shams are necessary.  Hmmm well maybe Nov!!!!!

Tula Pinks

Sew day with the girls yesterday, fun fun fun.

I managed to cut a few and actually had enough pieces cut to make the blocks - because they were so easy I managed to get blocks 19,20,21, and 22 completed.

22 out of 100 - this may take a while!

September Birthday Block

There was only one birthday girl in September and No birthday girls in August.

She has received her blocks so its now safe to show them.

Virginia Mazelin - TX  the left made up the right is called Lovers Knot

Finally finally feeling almost like my old self.

With family reunion coming this weekend, there is much to do and I will be able to do all the things I plan on doing with the help of some family members all will be ready for guests, entertaining, food and fun.

Yesterday was a long and busy day.  No sewing included in that but one huge purchase, a new mattress, which is long overdue.  17 years - that's how old the other one was - cant believe it was that long.  One of those sleep my numbers air bed - that I never ever got used to - we saved the "blow up pads" and compressor and remote just in case someone wants to spend the night we can blow them up and put them on the floor.

I'm not commenting yet on the new bed, good or bad??still have to get used to it.  A Memory Foam, Wayne and I both did not sleep all night long kept waking up off and on, but its like sleeping in someone else's bed, you just have to get used to it.  It was comfy but the jury is still out especially on the foam pillow I bought.  In the middle of the night I found the old lumpy pillow  I had and switched up.  Wayne will try the new pillow tonight and see how he likes it;  I'm thinking I need to rethink the pillow but the bed I'm sure will be fine.

I must have gotten enough sleep though, because I went back into my old routine, headed to the sewing room and made 2 more blocks for the October birthday girls.  There are 4 birthday girls in October.

Next on my list of to do's get dressed and work in yard for a while.

I'm feeling pretty darn good today.

Just Fooling Around

Its a good day - made 4 crazy blocks today, which is a huge accomplishment as they each take anywhere from 30 to 40 min to make from start to finish.

Ran the vacuum cleaner.  Now big deal you say!  - Well it is for me - the way I have been feeling its like a milestone has been met.

And just for the fun of it I polished my nails. I haven't laid polish on my nails in years because they don't seem to grow very well, what with housework, gardening and everything else I do, just cant get a good growth going.

Well this is what you get when you don't do anything physical for about 2 months and in fact I have even filed them back 3 times since the hospital.

It wont last long, because as soon as I start doing all the things I normally do in a day they will start disappearing on me.  But for now I will play around with them.  Bought some really funky sparkling polish yesterday and here we go.

It Only Took 3 Weeks

Went with the girls last month 4th Tuesday and started to work on Tula Pinks blocks - didn't finish them then, but did manage to finish this morning.

I had the first one done on sew day but 2 of them had miss cut some of the pieces, so packed them up and waited for a better day TODAY.  These are only 6 1/2 inch squares and with them being all cut out it didn't take long, just had to get myself pumped up to do any sewing.

A friend "Julie" called me and asked me to go to lunch with her, which I did.  So nice to see her again.  She is one of the gals I went to Houston with and we had a nice visit.

Then off to do a little shopping home again and managed to work outside for a little while.

In the meantime, my house looks like ugh!!!!!!!

But I just don't have enough energy to do housework and yard work, and its suppose to rain tomorrow, so its a much better day tomorrow for cleaning and Wayne will be home hehehehehehehehe!! He can pitch in, maybe??

Progress!!!!

Making daily progress now - unlike each day seeming to be just like the day before.

Went with friends yesterday to a quilt shop - finally outta the house to do something fun.

While trying to get my big butt into the back of a van - I strained that darn muscle in the right hip again!!!

Even so, still enjoyed my little outing with the girls.

Today I loaded and quilted another customer quilt.  How fun to do a well made quilt top - using my favorite free motion Swirls - I managed to finish before going to Phys Therapy this morning she did a massage on the strained muscle.

OK I'm out of the house, beautiful sunny day - cool, not too hot.  Take advantage of this, went to friends house for a short visit, then to drug store, stopped by to get a good Gus hug which I was in desperate need of.  He is such a sweet smiley baby, miss him so much.  Then to grocery store, first time Ive gone since July 26th.  Stopped quickly to visit Wayne at the car lot he was working at today and he stole and ice creme drum stick.

Home again, put everything away, trimmed up customer quilt and she picked it up this afternoon, in addition she bought one of my scrappy quilts.

So overall its been a pretty good day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A New Quilter

This week I quilted 2 quilts for a brand new quilter.  She has been taking some lessons at a senior center in Janesville.

She is progressing, but needs a little one on one of lessons.

The first one she had high loft batting but ran out of this (thank goodness) and she allowed me to use a much better quality batting.  I explained to her when she picked them up the difference of poly high loft and a good quilters batting.

Spent a great deal of time with her when she picked these up (which she loved) and we talked about the importance of the 1/4 inch rule, seam pressing and matching up seams etc.

She seemed very pleased with my helpful instructions.  She showed me some of the new pieces she was working on and I think with time she will become a very good quilt piecer.

While I was working on her quilts I had been fighting a "bug" so it was difficult for me to deal with quilting, sewing and just plain moving around.  Thankfully, today I am feeling better and ready to move on to better things.

Played with my stash looking for fabrics for Birthday Blocks - read and reread patterns, still in my jammies.

This house need cleaning, but I think it can wait a day or 2 or maybe three, just keep the path clean from bedroom, bathroom and kitchen and we are good to go.

Double Irish Chain

Using scraps given to her and some of her own Teri came up with another beautiful quilt.

I hope she likes the way I quilted it for you.  I wanted to give it that "old" quilt look.  With all over feathers, a stenciled border, and double feathers.

This took 3 days to do.  1 because of the detailing and 2 I just don't have the stamina I used to but its coming back slowly.  Each day seems a little better.

This morning I slept until after 9, and I needed it  The night before I didn't get more than 2 hours consecutive sleep.  Don't know why but woke up every hour on the hour starting from 12am on.

Makes for a long long day, but managed to get a lot accomplished, including working on this quilt.

Tomorrow I have a new customer coming with 2 quilts.  They are simple quilts and wont require the detailing done on this quilt.

Sometimes it pays to eves drop.  While in Joanns the other day I overheard a lady ask another if she knew of a quilter.  I walked over to her and handed her my card, then proceeded to help her pick out backing for her 2 quilts.

You just have to be in the right spot at the right time!!!!

A Little Of My Hand Work

While recovering from the surgery I got so darn bored I finally decided to try my hand and embroidery again.

Its been many years since I have hand embroidered and this was my first attempt.

Made a flower sack dish towel for my friend Annette, who runs me here there and everywhere.  She is always there for me and I do appreciate her so much.

She and her husband Tim recently moved into a darling old farm house and she is decorating with roosters in her kitchen, so I thought an old fashion flower sack towel with embroidery would work well with her decor.

Gave them to her yesterday so its safe to post about them today.
