Sometimes A Plan Doesnt Work

A few weeks ago I tried something new using my scraps. I did use 2 entire baggies of strips 1 or 2 inch wide and thought I was really on to something.

I did enjoy making of the blocks, the technique I used I would do again. Now the blocks looked pretty good so I purchased some fabric for sashing and border. My choice was not as good as I thought and when I finally got it all assembled I didn't like it much.  OK, lets see how it goes with the quilting.

Quilting was a disaster. I knew when I was loading the quilt it was never going to lay flat. I was right after doing just 19inches of a row I was running into problems.  There were just too many seams in this quilt and the puckering began. I tried doing a heavy quilting in the squares and straight line in the sashing.  The heavy quilting looked horrible. A second opinion from my bff said she thought it looked fine.

I, on the other hand absolutely hated it. I didn't even take a picture of it. It was that bad (to me anyway).  It actually depressed me looking at it.  Walked away from the quilt for a few hours and finally made the decision I was going to trash this one. It cost me in time mostly and it was an experiment that didn't work.  The technique worked but by using small strips the results were not what I wanted.

Sometimes you just have to realize some quilts are ugly and this one was the ugliest ever.  I have never given up on a quilt before I always felt once its quilted it will be fine.  But that was just not the case.

When a quilt depresses you just looking at it, its time to let it go. Once I took it off the frame and threw it in the trash my spirits lifted and I began a new project that is looking good and I am not depressed anymore.

Found It

I got my get up and go back.

Started my Christmas presents for grandchildren.

Tavyn our little 4 year old great grandson, loves superheros and loves pretending to be one. So A Cape Just for Tavyn .  Made this for him this morning. Now I have to figure out how to make a mask for him.

Fleece blankets are always a hit for little ones.

I'm sure he will love this one!!!

I just had to get my bum off the chair and get busy again.  Now I am back in the groove and ready to do more.

Christmas time to me is "grandchildren". I only have about 15 or more projects to finish by then. Lucky for me they are mostly simple projects, and maybe a few quilts thrown in.

Need a good kick

What a blah day!!!!!!.  Dark, gloomy, wet, rain. Some days like this I just feel motivated to stay inside and sew my heart out.  Unfortunately have the opposite effect on me today.

I did manage to finish a quilt that I loaded yesterday. Ran into a little trouble with tension problems, quit working on it last night and fixed the problems and finished this morning.

Everybody is liking swirls lately. I did a wiggle on borders to avoid this little lip she put around the quilt. If I had tried going over this, it would have given me a problem of curling up with every pass

I have so many project to do and no ambition to do them.  I think its because I have to go grocery shopping and I am procrastinating doing this.  One of my most hated jobs!!!

Holidays are looming, so I better find my get up and go.

Dog and cat are taking a nap and so is Wayne.  Maybe I should consider this. Naw.  Maybe I should bake something. Naw don't feel like it.

Maybe once customer comes to pick up her quilt will stay in sewing room and finish a present for Xmas.  Maybe!!!

I'm bored and lazy, not a good combination.

Turning Twenty

No Im not turning twenty, way past that age.

Finished another quilt for customer today. Yah like this is big news to everybody.

Simple meandering with dragonflies scattered throughout.  Cute! - I have been wanting to do stiching with dragonflies, and this worked out perfectly, the borders were a dragonfly print.

Loaded another one this afternoon, and almost finished, but had to quit, went to a meeting for the Edgerton Quilt Committee.  One big problem! I was a week too early. We meet next Monday.

I really should start marking my calendar for appointments.

Time Change

I hate the time change, and we have to do this 2x a year.  It always messes me up.

Woke at 3 am and said oh no not getting up.  Went back to sleep and woke at 6, this is OK get up and get busy.

Loaded a quilt and started stitching.  After 3 hours of working, took a break for about an hour. More stitching and now taking another break.  Just cant get myself going today.  Have about another hour or so to finish and my body is saying no.

This is what is waiting for me in my sewing room.

Large quilt, meandering with dragonfly stencils thrown in here and there

Fabric for my new quilt

Some blocks put together, new design

Some of the Christmas Presents I'm supposed to be working on

2 quilts hanging waiting to be quilted
Does anyone else have a problem when the time changes.  It always bothers me for about a week. Yuck.

Had big plans of really putting in a good sew day today.

Yesterday was a no sew day. Went to Craig High School to watch Ky in a play.  She was in the chorus of a High School play.  Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat.   We really enjoyed this play.  A nice way to spend and afternoon, then out for dinner at the Texas Roadhouse, and a marguerita. MMMM good.

I tried getting some pictures, but unfortunately none turned out. Even took some video and it was too grainy, so that didn't work out well either.

She really likes it when the family comes to see her in her performances.  Wouldn't miss them.

Our next outing will be to see Emma doing her gymnastics.  Really looking forward to this!!!!!! Like Wayne says there is the instructors way and then there's Emma's way.  Cant wait to see what she does.

2 More Bags

Customer ordered 2 bags, one will be used as a diaper bag. Guess which one? LOL

OK so yesterday afternoon a complete waste, but I'm making up for it today.

In addition to sewing, made some stew for supper tonight, its on stove on low so as not to burn it.

I tend to get involved in other things and forget to check on what is on the stove.  Today, made the choice to finish what I started (cooking anyway) and then turned burner down to low to do a slow cook.  Just checked and all A OK so supper wont be ruined again tonight.

In the past month I have managed to burn or scorched at least one meal a week.  Not so bad you couldn't eat it, but noticeable to the taste.  Don't know if Wayne has been paying attention or not, he will eat anything I cook. Bless him. But what choice does he have unless he wants to take over the cooking, which I did offer to him the other evening, he declined.

Just One and Done

Finished a quilt this morning for customer Jackie.  Very pretty quilt and she chose really beautiful colors. She does a fantastic job piecing her quilts and I always enjoy working on hers.

All done by 10am this morning and I wasted the rest of the day.  Could not get any ambition to do another thing. Cold, rainy, dreary day. Wayne took a couple of naps today and we watched 4 episodes of Boardwalk on Demand HBO.

This is a series we watched last year and hadn't realized the 2nd season had started. I discovered this yesterday, so we watched 2 episodes last night, and became couch potatoes for the entire day and got caught up on all episodes.

If you have never watched it, I warn you. You will either get addicted or hate it depending on what you are looking for in entertainment.  It takes place in Atlantic City during prohibition time, and with that comes violence, sex and nudity. More nudity than I care to see, and last 2 episodes some pretty gorey violence, but we are hooked on the story line.  I can do without some of the sex/nudity and blood scenes, and just go on with the story.

What is the fascination some people, including us, have when it comes to gangsters.

Tomorrow it HAS to be a more productive day in the sewing room.
